OEM vs ODM for a Yoga Mat Brand

An OEM vs ODM guide for yoga mat brands: what each model means, what the buyer brings and what the maker brings, and how to choose one for your brand.

Range of custom PU yoga mats in assorted colors
When a brand wants its own yoga mat, the work is usually done through a manufacturer under one of two models: OEM and ODM. The difference is how much of the product you bring and how much the maker brings.

OEM

OEM means the buyer's own design is manufactured by the maker. You bring the product and the branding — your logo, colour, pattern and shape — and the manufacturer produces the mats to your specification. On a custom yoga mat that is where your logo is applied by laser engraving or UV printing on the mat surface.

ODM

ODM means the maker also develops the product for you. Rather than only producing your design, the manufacturer helps shape the product itself — the mat, its material and its options — which suits a brand that wants a ready-developed mat to put its name on.

What Both Share on a Yoga Mat

Either model ends in a custom mat made to a brand: a PU or cork top over a natural rubber base, a chosen thickness, and your logo, colour, pattern and shape. Both run through the same structured process — share your brief, approve a sample, then produce, pack and ship.

How to Choose

Choose OEM when you already have the design and want it made to your specification. Choose ODM when you want the product developed as well as produced. If you are not sure which fits, the starting point is the same either way: send what you have — logo, colour, pattern and shape — and the maker can advise on the route. We work with brands, wholesalers and fitness studios under NDA-protected cooperation.
